Mareporta's

Community Commitment

Social Impact Over Profit

Since being established in 2017, Mareporta has always measured success by impact rather than profit. We believe that all adults with learning disabilities and complex needs deserve a home they can call their own rather than being stuck in residential care models or hospital wards. This conviction led us to begin the formal conversion to a Community Interest Company in 2025. As of 2026, that transition is official: Mareporta is now a not-for-profit social enterprise.

By choosing to be a CIC, we provide our partners including landlords, local councils and care providers with the guarantee that every penny we earn is working toward a better future for vulnerable adults in Kent.

As a social enterprise, we view our houses as community assets rather than just rental units. We reinvest our surpluses to ensure our homes exceed basic safety standards, providing high quality environments that promote dignity for our residents. By funding modernisations and specialised equipment, we ensure that the people we serve live in stable, well maintained homes that contribute to their long-term well-being.

We use our resources to tackle the critical housing shortage for adults who are often overlooked. Our social mission drives us to source and renovate properties specifically for those stuck in hospital wards, residential care or the care leaver system. By creating these specialist placements, we are actively solving a social crisis and providing a clear pathway for vulnerable individuals to gain independence within their own community.

Our reinvestment strategy prioritises the people who keep our mission running. We maintain an in-house team to ensure total accountability and continuity of care. All staff are fully DBS checked and specifically trained to operate safely and respectfully around care recipients. By investing in our own workforce, we provide a reliable, 24/7 support system for our partners and a familiar, trusted presence for the people living in our properties.

CIC Asset Lock

As a Community Interest Company, Mareporta is subject to a statutory Asset Lock. This is a legal requirement ensuring that all our assets including our properties, vehicles, technology and tools, along with any financial surpluses, are used exclusively for the benefit of the community we serve.

To ensure our mission remains permanent, we have officially nominated Mencap as our successor body. This guarantees that even in the long term, our resources will always be protected and dedicated to supporting individuals with learning disabilities and complex needs.

Business Data Analysis

Permanent Social Purpose

Our assets cannot be transferred to private individuals or for-profit businesses. They are legally tied to our mission of providing specialist housing. This means that even if the company were to close, the assets must be transferred to another "asset-locked" body to ensure they stay within the social sector forever.

Financial Transparency

Every pound we generate is either reinvested into our properties or used to expand our support services for adults with complex needs. We operate with full financial accountability, meaning our reinvestment strategy is documented and available for review by the CIC Regulator to ensure we are meeting our social objectives.

Long-Term Stability

Because we are not driven by shareholder dividends, we focus on the long-term stability of our placements rather than short-term financial gain. This allows us to invest in high-quality housing and consistent maintenance, providing a reliable environment for residents that won't be disrupted by market fluctuations or private sales.

Regulated Oversight

We report annually to the CIC Regulator to prove that our activities continue to provide genuine social value to the people of Kent. This annual "Community Interest Report" is a public document that details exactly how our assets and profits have been used to support vulnerable adults, offering a level of transparency that private landlords cannot match.
